Go into device manager find the Realtek HD Audio driver under "sound, Video and Game controllers"and right click properties the click the Driver tab, there should be some button with options on each, click "Roll back Driver", this should restore your sound back as it was. If windows update offers the bad driver update again the right click and Hide that driver so it doesn't update it again. I had the same problem on my HP laptop.
NO PC stated NO OS stated. if it fails to update internet connected right lick Realtek, in device manager update. that means there is no driver for it, but again no PC stated, of 100,000 made. we can't guess PCs, be silly to try no?
