Rear Main Seal Leak
I have had the rear main seal leaking oil; The actual seal is inexpensive, but an auto shop gave me a repair quote of 1,242.98. Is this reasonable when the seal is under 50.? Thanks, Cheryl

To replace the seal, the mechanic will have to either lift the engine or lower the transmission. You will get much better pricing going to a transmission shop (e.g. AAMCO) and getting a quote from them to replace the seal.
THat seems to be in the ball park. If you have an AWD, the flat rate time is 14.4 hours. If you have just a FWD, it is 9.5 hours. In either case, the transmission has to be removed from the vehicle to access this seal. Sorry.
