rear pretty hard. had to replace the reinforcement beam, bumper. Lift gate etc. picked up the car and the check engine light is on and car won't engage into ECO mode. The repair shop said it was an o2 sensor and not their problem!! The light was not on before the accident. Could the impact have caused this? Don't understand how the light comes on and ECO doesn't work when it has just been sitting in the repair shop
Your problem may have nothing to do with your car sitting at the repair shop for a while. You said your car was hit hard in rear. A jolt like that sends a shock through the whole car. It's the weakest link scenario. What may have been ready to go, went due to the jolt. It could have been any other sensor, but it was your o2 sensor. If you talk to your insurance company, they will tell you replacement will be under your insurance betterment clause, which will cost you anyway, check your policy. I know this is a crock. I believe your problem will be solved when o2 sensor is repaired. This is connected with ECO. GOOD LUCK FRIEND
If the tailpipe got jammed in the wreck there is a chance that it damaged an O2 sensor lead. I would contact the insurance company and see if they can amend the estimate to cover the repair.
