recorder since the beginning of 2005. I realize I can still record on DVD-RW blank discs but they are more expensive and you don't get as many as the DVD-R blank discs. Is the version of the new Sony blank discs the problem ? And what DVD-R blank discs are compatible with this recorder and do you know where I can purchase them? The simple answer is the newer Sony discs rated for up to 16x recording speed aren't going to work on your DVD recorder without a firmware update from Broksonic. Unfortunately, there aren't any firmware updates for this DVD recorder.
All of the Sony discs currently on sale seem to be rated for 16x. I can't find any 8x for sale online, so if you can't find any locally, you're probably not going to be able to get these any more.
Taiyo Yuden discs are generally considered to be the best in terms or reliability and compatibilty. They are usually sold in larger packs (100+), but I found a 25 disc pack rated for 8x recording speed at Amazon.com for $8:

I'd be very suprised if you had any problems recording to discs. I'd suggest buying this small pack to test and then purchase a larger pack later. 100 discs can be bought for about $20-25 (20-25c per disc). I'm assuming you are in the US of course - please let me know if not.
