Reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition on Gateway 500XL
First off, I have the reinstalling CD set that came with the computer. I have already cleared out my harddrive and formated with NTFS but then at about 23% of the setup, it said that " 'driver.cab' couldn't be found and to insert the correct cd" so inserted all of them (1 at a time) and nothing yet.
I was then told by my mom that she had the computer fixed by Gateway back in 2005; and their techs used different CDs to reboot & reinstall Windows XP Home Edition.
I am willing to start completely over since I got frustrated and pressed the escape button to skip part of the install; which I know is bad.
Thank You in advance

Do you have access to another internet connected computer that you can use to create a "slipstream" installation disc for XP. It will make your life a whole lot easier, and save hours if not days of downloading updates. Please read this article, and if possible, follow its instructions. http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp3_cd_final.htm
Also, be aware that you can download all the original drivers from the Gateway web site if you use the serial # to look them up. The serial number is usually on a sticker on the side of the front of the tower near the CD drive. If you don't have the original CD with Drivers written on it, you may have to download these in order to get back online, etc once you load the OS.
