The original connector was not assembled properly. If the original was a twist on type, then unscrew it. Otherwise, remove the connector by cutting it off with cutting pliers. Now strip back insulation from the 2 wires about 1/2 inch and then twist the 2 together. now screw on a wire connector (tightly) that you must purchase (sorry) in an electrical hardware store. Finally, wrap electrical tape around both the new connector and wires to prevent unraveling.
Note: If your fan is under warantee then donot try the above steps.
