repair Hi, I have a used K5A that I aquired this week. It works sometimes for just a minute, the problem seems to be in the speed lever. A KA repairman also told me yesterday that the armerature may be arcing. I wonder if you can repair and how much it would be. I can't throw this machine out, it's made too well and someone has loved it. Thanks

First thing check the carbon brushes, when they wear out they arc at the armature. Two black screw covers one either side of the top motor housing. The brushes are keyed to only go back in one way so make a note of which corner of the brush has been shaved off. If you look in the hole with a torch you can see the little blocker in one corner deep down. As a rule it's back top corner on one side and back bottom corner on the other side.
