Replace the lithium battery in Model BBCC-S15
Can I replace the battery or can I trust a local repair shop to replace it. The machine would cost too much to ship it to authorized Zojirushi repair shops.

I faced the same problem with my BBCC-S15 bread maker. My wife decided it was a good Idea to pull this machine out after years of being idle. I knew the battery was dead. My solution is as follows and it is quite simple, actually. The battery that is currently in the machine is obsolete I believe that it is a 2354. You can find it, but it will not come with the solder tabs to put it back on the board. You will need a soldering iron, and a desoldering iron to complete this task. If you are not good at soldering I suggest that you ask a friend who has these tools to do it for you. These boards are old and you don't want to risk debonding the traces. First you will notice after removing the lid, 2 phillips head screws right in front, remove them. Next, gently pry the panel towards you, and you don't need a knife or screw driver to do this, use your fingernails. Once you move the panel forward, pull up on it with gentle pressure not to far though, there is a connector that you need to remove. Pull the connector down and don't disorient it's position. The panel is now free. Remove the 4 phillips head screws securing a cover and remove the cover and the circuit board is clearly seen. Gently remove the circuit board and flip it over. The battery is located bottom right corner of the display. Lead free solder was used so you will need to put a little heat to it to desolder the battery. Make sure that you unsolder the right connections, there are only 2. They are the 2 connections with the most solder on the entire board. Now go to Radio Shack and buy their 2032 battery holder and the battery. This holder is almost the exact pin spacing that you need minus about 1/32 inch. Make sure that you put the positive terminal to the + sign on the board. You will have to nudge the holder slightly but it will fit right in. Resolder the Holder and insert the battery. Now you have a removable battery forever. The main purpose of this fix is so that you can now replace the battery easily and never have to resolder a hard to find 2354 in place again. Reassemble in reverse order and you did it!!!
My husband did this just this evening. It took about 30 minutes. He did not need a desoldering iron as he was able to melt the solder with his soldering iron, and there was plenty of solder there for him to re-solder the new connection. Radio Shack's 2032 battery holder fit quite nicely and cost only $1.99.
Thanks VERY much for these instructions.
My bread machine was given to me (possibly because the battery was dead). I could use it, but not as easily as if the battery worked. Thanks again!
