I took apart wheel and axle and can't get it back together, don't know where the little spring goes exactly. just thought of taking off the wheel itself to put it back on, that'll probably work, but still don't know exactly how it fits on properly.

The spring goes inside that pedal that you step on to advance the height. Place that spring in that pedal and then place the pedal into its' groove, then put the axile and wheel assembly over the pedal and put your screws back into the mounting sections.
