Hi if you mean that the battery light is lit up in the dash whilst the engine is running or whilst driving then what this light is telling you is that the battery is not being charged correctly or with enough power to keep the battery fully charged and all your lights working.
Now the light being on isnt always an indication you have a problem with the battery as the light is related to the charge the battery is receiving from the alternator, but as you have changed the battery then the first thing you should check is that the terminals are tight and not loose and also check their have been no wires left off the live terminal. The chances are the wires are fitted correctly and they are tight enough.
I would put money on the alternator being faulty and this is why your warning light is on, you may even find that the battery you took off is ok and it was the alternator that was not charging it properly so it would then cause the battery to go flat.
What you need to do now is get your alternator changed as this is going to be the cause of your problem getting this changed will put the warning light out and it would ensure your battery is not going to go flat.
If the battery was no good and the alt was working then this warning light would not light up as its connected to the charge coming from the alternator, and this would just mean changing the battery how ever as you have this warning light on then this indicates either the alternator not working at all or it could also mean the alt is not giving off the correct charge to charge the battery, either of these problems will mean you need to get the alternator changed.
The only other problem you could have that would cause this warning light to be on is if the alternator belt (or fan belt as its often called) had snapped you can check this by looking at the side of the engine and see if you can see a belt running around all the pulleys, if you see this belt then you will need to replace the alt, if the belt is missing then replacing the belt will then solve your problem
Change the alternator and then you will find your problem will be solved.
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
It very well be that the Alternater is Not Putting OUT the Correct Volts & or AMPS The Entire Power Distribution System Needs to Be Inspected and Tested. Starting with the ALTERNATER. I'm Sure this Will Help Correct your Problem, or Leads you to the Problem.
