Replaced brake light bulb. Can't get plastic fasteners to seat
The fasteners are made of black plastic and are about 1 inch long. they are designed to fit through a hole in the lens assembly and then a hole in the bracket on the body. They have an end that is split into three sections to allow it to compress and fit through the hole on the body bracket. I have tried to push them back into place with no success. I am afraid that a hammer might not be the best approach. Any suggestions as to how they can be put back in would be appreciated. thanks

Probably a little late for you but I ran into the same problem. The plastic shaft that is split into three actually slides up when pulled apart from the mushroom cap. This helps get the shaft back into the hole. Similar to placing an anchor into a wall.
I usually replace these clips. They seem to never go back in correctly....
Go To an autoparts store, and buy a package of the clips.
It should be only a few dollars.
Pair of pliers should do the trick.
