Replacing output speed sensor on 2002 sonata
I need step by step instructions on replacing the output speed sensor and input speed sensor on my 2002 sonata. thank you. I also think there is a problem with my 02 output speed sensor - or at least that is what came up when they hooked the computer to it - you see, mine was not shifting gears correctly - I stopped yesterday to put gas in it - when I left gas station, the RPM's went way up and then it jerked into gear, then the engine light came on - this also happened to my son two days ago but my husband could find nothing wrong - we went and got the part but can't figure out how to get to it - the Hyundai place said it was easy, just losen a bolt and replace it - you can't get to it that easy - now though we actually think it may not be the sensor but the wires that attach it - looked on Autozone for diagram and they don't have one - any other online places I could find it?

Agreed, your sensore is telling you somethings wrong with the trany. replace the sensor last. from what you describe you have a worn out fritchion cltuch plate. check your trany fluid for shiny particles in the oil or paper like material. this is telling you your tranys clutch plates are going and going fast.
and to find the sensor it will be on the out put shaft part of the trany. it will be on the out side with 2 wires going to it. (this is a hall effect type sensor) it will have a retainer holeing it into place.(possibly an 8 mm bolt) sohuld be the same front and rear wheel drive. front wheel drive is harder to find but look at the axle shalfts and where they conect to the trany. this is the ddifferential. it should be close to this location if not look closer to the main body of the trany. along the back side closest to the fire wall.
