The reverse lights are dead, both>? that is the correct post' or lamps stuck on? post a real symptom. own a simple voltmeter? got the trailer tow option package? Factory !
1: check fuses. always first step in all electric work and for damage near target bad parts. (trailer hictched. hacks are #1) 4.0 L or 4.7L on this car it has A/T and PRNDL(4.0L) switch or TSTA switch that DRIVES directly the. the lamps at pin 1 of Tranny switch, VT-BLK. color, if pin 3 is hot, keyon and pin one is 0v in REVErse then the switch is bad, or maladjusted. READ FSM on that. if the pin3 input is 0v, then you lost power to this switch. if the reading is low say 6v and not 12v at the lamp or pin1. then you have short in the line, very common on trailer hack jobs.
just 2 measurements and bingo the cause.
the automatic day night mirror options connects to the backup lamp too, so it can short and cause 2 things short to ground, blows fuse or dims the lamps. short to power , lamps stick on. all these facts from FSM. in 5min.
