Rinnai 82dfb Hi i have a rinnai gas fire that i wanted to replace so i went to buy a new one.The guy from the shop charged me $40 to come and look and said i didnt have a vent and the fire should not be installed. He said best to rip it out take out the mantle and that we would be in trouble if we sold the house with it installed.Ive since had a look and the fire looks like it was never intended to have a vent as there is no hole in the back. This fire was in when we bought the house and i dont know if he is right or if he just didnt know what he was talking about. He was the owner of the shop and i assume he would know.My wife is now very worried and is not using the fire.As we live in the Adelaide hills and its freezing i need to sort something out soon.I would really appreciate a reply

I am thinking that the retailer is not up to scratch with gas regulations and gas heater designs and standards
IT might be better if you talk with an accredited gas fitter and clarify what the regulations and standards are applicable to installing gas heaters in homes
Failing that you can get information from companies like origin ( or like company in your state ), and other gas suppliers some of whom sell approved heaters for homes
