Rough acceleration… Ok, I just bought a 2003 Monster 800. It has 5300 miles. I have recently noticed a clicking noise followed by a slight lurch while accelerating at a slow pace in all gears. It also happens if I am cruising at low (2k-4k) rpms. At first I thought it could be a problem with the throttle, like some slack in the throttle cable, but it almost feels like the engine is slightly choking. It isn't a strong lurch or loss of power, and it doesn't happen if I acceleration quickly, or keep the RPMS above 5k or so. It also seems to be happening more frequently as I ride the monster more. Anyone experienced anything like this before? Any ideas about what it could be before i bring it into the stealership? Things to note: -It was tuned up this past March. -It has NOT had the 12k suggested service yet, that will be done shortly. Does anyone have any experience with power commanders? Would this possibly fix my problem? thanks

Power Commander will not fix your problem. You have a problem that Ducati knows about but will not post any recalls or dealer notices. My Monster 800 Sie with 6500 miles on it had the same identical problem which one dealer could not find the answer to. The second with a more experienced mechanic and bigger shop has seen this problem many times before, mostly on 1000's. Problem is a cough through the air cleaner and missfiring between 2-4k on tach, mostly worse at constant throttle. Check your valve guides! After having a rough time tuning the bike they went right to the guides and found upper cylinder valve guides shot. Also, anyone reading this, please go online to Ducati and complain about the problem. I have had so much trouble getting this bike diagnosed and repaired that I feel I am an expert now. Do not buy anything for it until they diagnose the engine then check guides!!!
