First you need make sure it is the switch itself and not the wiring or ignition coil.
On string trimmer/brushcutters the switch is usually a rocker type that with patience can disassemble and the contacts can be cleaned. Very small parts that can be lost are involved so carefully disassemble so the spring and action pin are not lost across the room.
