You wrote your friend gave you a remote with the combo, does that remote work?, if it does, there should be a button on it labeled "Line In" 3rd one down from the right side. My guess would be that it toggles the "Line-In" status. Does that remote turn the combo on and off or control anything on the combo?, if so, that's a good start, if not check the batteries, make sure you got some good ones in it, you might also take the remote somewhere to get tested, like Radio Shack, or somewhere there is a IR(Infra-Red) beam detector, you will be able to see a flashing light on the detector from the remote when you press a button. I think Radio Shack still sell those little detector things. As far as your G.E. Universal Remote you bought, it should have instructions and codes that were packaged together with it, unless you got it unpackaged together. Does your Universal control anything on the combo ? Can it turn the power on and off ? If so, you got a code that works some of it. There maybe other codes that work better, check your other post on Jan 20th for the codes and instructions. The universal should have a "Input" button on it, try it and see if it gets you where you wanna go.
