save files
I picked up a used Dell d600 last week which was a dual boot machine with Windows XP pro and Ubuntu. When I choose to boot to Ubuntu it always stops at the "install, step 6 of 7, Migrate Documents and Settings'' screen with a check list of one user ''owner''. I click on user & nothing happens, forward button doesn't work, only quit button functions. When I quit I go into Ubuntu, all apps seem to work. However I cant see or access any files from XP side. Also when I exit Ubuntu all files/dirs I created will not be there when I go back. How can I fix this?

Hello my friend thus your Grubber still functioning? If still works then try to access your XP by selecting Xp in your grubber. Or if you can't access your XP files within the Linux you need to select and open first the XP platform. If you can't find the XP loader or platform or it doesn't starts the XP then it is possible that your XP is overwrite by your Linux platform or some error in writing the linux installation to your XP platform. Will if that is happening right now the only way to regenerate your Xp is to reinstall your XP then after you reinstall it need also to reinstall your Linux otherwise after reinstalling Xp it will overwrite your Linux system will lost forever.
Hope this solution helps your pronblem. If you need more assistance you can reply to this post. Thank you
