Screen Gibberish My Ti-83+ is about 6 years old but not until a couple of days ago did this problem occur. I turned it on to find gibberish all over the screen. I pressed clear without any luck. I changed the batteries, cleared the ram, pulled all the batteries including the lcd and let it sit overnight, and updated the OS via another TI-83+. Nothing has worked so far. Any thoughts?
You dropped your calculator one too many times, or the solder joints broke some other way. Get a soldering iron, liquid flux, and solder and resolder all of the chips on the mainboard.
Another common cause is the white flex cable connecting the LCD to the main board. Peel that off of the board (it isn't soldered), tin all of the pads and solder wires onto them in place of the flex cable. Try this first, since the cable is folded, and over time the connection breaks at the fold.Another common cause is the white flex cable connecting the LCD to the main board.
