Should i spray the inside of the volume knob to fix the volume?
I have an old sony stereo system,the volume goes in nd out,how can I fix this problem without banging on the case the stereo sits inside?

You can try contact cleaner. Spray some in (with unit turned OFF) and move the knob up and down several times stop to stop. then try to see if it helped.
