There are three switches on most shredders that can cause them to stop. 1) a jam 2) door ajar 3) bag full If you can rule out a jam, and the door ajar light goes on when the door is open and off when its closed, and the shredder has not been undergoing very heavy use (they will overheat and shut off, then be fine in 15 min or so) then its a safe bet to say that it has to do with the switch that tells the shredder that the bag is full (when you take out the bag you can see a metal flap hanging down at the back of the top opening) the way that the shreddings fall can often trip the swtich that tells the shredder that the bag is full, shake the bag a bit so the paper resettles that often fixes it.
