Shure beta 58
I scored an old beta 58 but the 3 pin connector was missing. i bought another one but i don't know which wires to connect where. plus there are only two wires, is that right? I'm a bit of a noob but I like to try things myself :)

Solution #1 by Abrsvcs is in error. I use a Beta 58 and it is not a condenser mic and does not require phantom power.

Benimur, you are correct, except that the Beta 58 is a condenser mic that required phantom power. In that case all 3 lines are used. Included below are the connections.

Somehow the diagram didn't make it... The connections are as follows:
Pin 1 - Ground
Pin 2 - Blue
Pin 3 - Red
This is not true. All of the Microphones in Shure's SM series are dynamic microphones and do not require phantom power.
The red wire onpin 3 the blue on pin 2 and the pin 1 connect to the body of the mic trhu the holding screw (put a small wire to connect and solder!
Hi,
- Pin 1 - Mic ground;
- Pin 2 - Mic hot;
- Pin 3 - Mic cold;
- normally pins 1 & 3 are shorted.

XLR cables are a balanced connection. You should never send signal down the ground conductor.
NOTHING should be shorted.
You need an XLR wire to plug the mic into. What are you trying to plug the mic into?
