Depending on where you live you may need to call your utilities company to come out and turn off your water. Before the water is shut off be sure to turn off your hot water heater. When the water is shut off you can drain your system by turning on an outdoor faucet which is normally the lowest fixture in the house. You will also need to turn on the hot water valve at any fixutre to drain the hot water out o the lines. Water will still remain in the hot water heater.
