Sigma AF 28mm to 105mm does nothing in AF mode (Canon DSLR)

I just purchased a Sigma AF lens (28-105) from someone and when I connect it to my camera, it does nothing. Any clue or string of variables there might be as to what is causing this?

If the lens has a iris ring if so you need to turn it to the f16/22 also what camera you use
Hi it has a iris ring this must be set to the red number and the lock on the ring needs to be put on you will see a orange dot
