SimpleDrive I cannot retrieve files; Model No. 96300-40001-001
I have the SimpleTech SimpleDrive Model No. 96300-40001-001 and I am not able to get my files from it. When I open up the G: Drive where it is connected to, I am able to see all the folders and subfolders with the documents and pictures (thumbnails) showing. BUT when I click on a picture to open it for example, the message I get is "Photo Gallery can't open this picture because it might have been deleted or is in a location that is not available". If I open up a document it says it cannot be found. HELP!

I feel the problem can be something else as well.
The message "Photo Gallery can't open this picture because it might have been deleted or is in a location that is not available" can be because the Photo Gallery program that you use to view pictures in your computer.
First, try this, right click on the picture and click on "Open With". This will give you a list of all programs.
Here, you can select "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" and place a check in the check box below that says "Always use this Program.." and click OK. See if this works.
I would also like to know if you are able to open other files on this drive except picture files.
Also, the document that you are trying to open, what's the file type for this document.
You can try one more thing that will help us to isolate the issue.
Please note the next step we are going to do is just a diagnostic step and we will revert back to the original settings after this step.
- Go to Run and type MSCONFIG and click OK
- Now on the new window that comes up click on a tab at the top that says Services
- At the botton check the box that says "Hide All MS Services" and click "Disable All" on right
- Now go to last tab at the top that says "Start up" and click "Disable All" at the bottom.
- Now click OK at the bottom.
- It will ask if you want to restart or exit without restart.
- Click on Restart.
- Now your system will restart.
- Once you come back to Desktop you get a message that says "Sys config was used to make changes to your system.
- Click OK here and it will again open the Computer Management window.
- Again go to the Services tab, check "Hide All MS Services" and this time click "Enable All"
- Next go to the "Start up" tab and click "Enable all" here as well.
- After this, click OK and this time click "Exit without restart" (now settings will be restored whenever you restart the system)
Now go ahead and try to open your pictures and documents to check if its working.If not, then try the fixes provided by other friends above.
Even if it works after MSCONFIG, that will show that there is some other program/spyware creating this problem and in that case try uninstalling any recent programs you installed and Run the complete virus and spyware scan.

Once you have done a virus scan, try your drive on another computer. If you get the same message, then I suggest you find someone to help you clone your drive and then run a disk repair program on the original drive. There are free disk cloning programs and disk repair programs available.

you better scan your computer, a virus has infect your computer, if you have another virus remover better have it scan. Maybe your virus scanner installed in your computer has infected the virus also.
