Smeg A2 - Oven gets too hot

I had just to replace the fac element, on using the oven for the first time the inner glass of the main oven shattered. I have now replaced the glass and have tested the oven to about 100C using a oven thermometer, however the oven got to 100C and the red light went out but the temperature inside the oven went up to about 150C within a few minutes so I turned it off and opened the door to allow it cool down before more breakages!
I've doubled check with Smeg Services UK that they have supplied the correct element and they assure me they have. What is wrong now !!

Is there a heat probe inside the oven? sound like you owen is overheating. i would check the TOD, if the oven has one. this thermostat regulates the temperature and if it's "open" it needs to be replaced.
