Sometimes when i turn the key my fuel pump will not start
This problem started about two weeks ago. I find that when it happens by turning the key off then on a few times i can get it to start . I changed the relay expecting it to work first time . But it was just the same so i treid another relay still the same .
I am going over to Germany on the bike next month i am worreid that it will let me down

Do not touch the throttle till it fires. Only the choke, which is the primer for the start up fuel. The throttle does nothing till the engine is running. Your problem sounds like a weak battery. If it is like mine, I have been wrestling with a slow starter for years, the battery is tiny. And even a brand new one is slow. I have replaced the battery 3 times in 8 years.
I know you can check the pressure of the fuel pump, but if it is humming, it should be working. It comes on with the key and it stays on. Don't forget, you are fuel injected, 30lbs pressure, min, or something like that. Hope this helps, 2002 S4, 1999 750 monster.
