First clean out your fuel injection use a lot to make sure theres no varnish inside (brownish red buildup)next check your plugs and regap them if you have a dual plug engine make sure that all are firing by checking for spark also bend the wires to check if there are cracks in the insulation you didn't specify what 2.3 you have but most are the same also check fuel filter when did you last change it and also look for oil or antifreeze in the plug chambers so please do a basic tuneup and fuel injection cleaning and post back if the problem persists and we'll go further also write down what you did so we can eliminate certain things ok good luck stephen
