Son was backing 2001 ford escape in to parking area and it would not shift back to park and he shut the ignition off and came and got me. I then tried to start the truck the key will turn but will not start becuase it will not shift out of reverse

With the key on.. step on the brake pedal.. then try to shift it..the interlock may have malfunctioned..
