I'll bet even money that your problem is the crystal. It should be a small metal (usually silver) container. It will say 3.579545 MHz. Replace that and you should be back in business! They'e preity tough, but they do go out (NTSC) To piggyback Walesarumi, slightly, you can't mix equipment without adding unnecessary cost.

Hello, welcome to Fixya!
The display setting is set to NTSC either on the TV or DVD that's why it is showing in black and white.
Check the DVD display settings and change it to Pal or auto, save and try again. Also, check the PAl settings on the TV.
If the above doesn't solve the problem,then it means there is an incompatibilty problem between the TV and DVD.
