This is a sign of a compressor that has an armature dragging internally or the winding has a short to the chassis inside the compressor. Placing your hand on one with an internal short to the case will definately get your attention. USE a meter! (lesson learned the hard way too many times)
It really is not wise to keep trying to use the unit in this condition.
1. Higher electric bill
2. When compressor finally burns up and contaminates coolant system.... purging and cleaning the coolant system can be as costly as the compressor replacement.
3. There is a remote chance there is a chaffing wire from the outside unit to the inside unit. (Very remote)
A Service Tech will do a running check where he verifies the running amperage of the unit. High amperage = a bad / dragging compressor.
The most common reason is that the electrical power is not supply to the air conditioners. If the air conditioner operate for period of time then only it trips. Then , it could be possible that the MCB is under-sized. Please check the recommended MCB size. Rate it.
