spring, shock & connection to the wheel is all one unit they call the strut. Show I just just replace the unit or is there something else I should look for? Believe it or not it started after I went to a self car wash. Thanks, BillP

Taking a guess from your description it could be the swivel bearing is failing and when turning the wheel to full lock it is winding the coil spring until the spring force overcomes the bearing resistance and then it will jerk.
