You have the steam generator iron DG5030 not a regular water tank in the iron type right? Try changing the gasket in the tank cap. There are youtube videos online on how to do it. 1800Parts.com carries Rowenta parts at the lowest price online. You may need to replace the entire cap or... if the screw shaft in the housing is stripped, I see they have replacement housings at 1800Parts.com, you could try that but I don't know if you need to be a professional repair person to replace the main tank like that. I love my Rowenta steam generator iron but they only seem to last for 2-3 years before they start having problems.

Check the holes in the hot plate are not blocked with lime scale...sounds like you have a back pressure problem
