Suddenly I can't turn up the volume. I can hear it but it's so soft I have to turn my laptop's volume up all the way. When I click on the little speaker icon (in between the - and +) it says, "speaker off" I've tried resetting defaults and everything, but I never changed them. I didn't change anything. Help!

To change the volume there are 2 sliders not just 1. It s the master volume (the one u are moving) and the Wave Volume or "Application" as Vista likes to call it..
Right Click your volume icon > Open Volume Mixer > Turn the other Slider (aplications) to max. That should do it..
It went down because some programs (most actually) internally use the Application volume, so when u switch the volume inside the program THAT slider moves.. not the master one. And it doesn t always come back to the point where it was after u leave the game/program..
