SUN SPARCstation 5 Desktop
I have a SUN SPARCstation 5 someone gave to me for free and it was just the Desktop. It came with 2 sticks of RAM unknown about the MB size. No Hard Drive but have a EIDE IBM 6.44GB that I want to put in it, and hoping to install Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition on it. There is no USB ports, nor PS/2 Port, only Keyboard Port. It also has a CD-ROM Drive on the side of it.
I looked on google for information about this and seen what I needed for it.
I ordered a VGA Port Adapter, VGA to AV Adapter to hook to Tv and a SCSI to EIDE Converter. Need a Keyboard that has the PS/2 Port on it. Witch thats where the mouse plugs into for it to work on this. But need to know if they made a USB card for this, Because I would like to have atleast 1 or 2 USB ports on this. It has no Modem port but has 2 Ehternet Ports, 2 parallel Ports and some others that i've never seen before.
I'm just using this for word and for some olds games, and using my Tv in room as its monitor. Witch hoping if I can find a USB port I could turn keyboard and mouse to wireless.

The sparcstation 5 is a microsparc ii system based on the sun4m architecture. Windows will only run on x86 based architecture, eg pentium. USB is too new a technology for a 13 year old computer, The machine maxes out at 256 mb ram, but if you have two sicks, its likely that you have 16 or 64 mb ram.
What you see are a series of SCSI ports, all different widths. Best case, yo uget 8 bit color (256 colors), and a scan converter won't help your picture quality. These machines are typically used headless (NO MONITOR)
Sell it on ebay. make a few hundred off of it. donate it to somebody who can use it. Not to be mean, but you don't have the technical knowledge to begin to use a machine like that.
Your OS choices are:
SunOS
Solaris
OPENBSD
Select varients of linux
Openstep
Nextstep
You cannoy play games on it, and the monitor also requires a very specific refresh rate to work.
Also, no chance of a wireless keyboard or mouse.
However, if you want to learn System V unix, you're in luck.
I own two of the buggers!!
You'll need a multisynch monitor to make this work.
You will not be able to install windows on that system. The processor speed is about 80Mhz and the ram that came standard is about 32MB. That is not close to the needed minimums of XP. You can install Solaris or versions of linux to make it a working computer. This computer uses a non-standard monitor port. The keyboard that works on it has the mouse and keyboard as one PS/2 connection.
