Grab your vista cd and reboot setting the bios to boot from the cd.... you will be prompted i believe for language and keyboad settings.... your next choice is install or repair.... choose repair... in the next window choose start up repair. Hopefully that will fix it.
ok i messed that up sorry. same process with xp ... boot to the install cd.... do all the steps as tho you are reinstalling windows. but when you get to the point where it has searched for a previous version of xp .... select that version and chose repair "R"
