Tally t2265 'check ribbon' hardware alarm... carriage moves ok, 2 new ribbons ...that came from other machines,,,, ribbon drive seems fine, could it be encoder strip??? please help!
The check ribbon message on the 2265 indicates the printer is detecting problems with moving the print head. You have ruled out the ribbon as being the cause of the problem by using ribbons from another printer. Befor suspecting other components check the pritner model, if the printer is a 2265+ check to ensure the correct ribbon is used. Note the ribbon for the 2265+ is different to the 2265 ribbon. The 2265+ has a ribbon sensor to detect the ribbon moving. If the printer is a 2265+ the part number for the ribon should be 062471.
If the correct ribbon is used the problem could be the timming strip which could be dirty or warn. Try cleaning this and check for damage. The problem can also be caused by a dirty or lubricated carriage shaft, the carriage shaft should be clean and dry running - Keep clean of any type of lubricant. The problem can also be cused by the timing station on the carraige, the carriage motor.
I had same error on Tally T2265 and done all instructed available on this page but still was same error then found a small lock strip (black) on ribbon moving shaft was not in position downward. Put that in position and move print head motor by hand on shaft from one end to another smoothly. Then its clear error.
