Tape2PC USB "not recognized"
The Tape2PC machine connects to a computer with a line that plugs into the computer's USB port. The machine worked for several uses, but then when I tried to connect it, my computer gave a message "USB device not recognized." I tried it with other computers too -- so I know it is not only an issue with one computer. The machine turns on and the tape deck functions seem fine, but it will not transmit sound to a computer.
I have gotten no help from the manufacturer.
If the problem is only the connector line, I don't know if I can simply find a replacement somewhere.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I had the same problem a few days ago (April 5 2009). The problem turned out to be a dodgy USB socket on the back of the Tape2PC. There was a bent & broken pin in the USB socket.
Perhaps you have a similar problem with the USB port - have a close look at it in good light.
I took the the cover off the tape2pc (6 screws), and then removed the small circuit board containing the USB socket (2 screws). The part number on this board is 0038-2410-0000. This small board is connected to the main circuit board on the base of the box by a short cable. You just unplug this cable from the USB port board, cut a cable tie, and replace the USB port board. It is a very simple and quick job - it took no more than 10 minutes and only requires a small Philipps head (+) screw driver.
I don't know where you live, but I phoned the UK distributor for Ion and received a replacement board within 2 days.
The PC now recognizes the tape2pc again but I can't get any volume when I try to record my cassettes. Any suggestions with this?
