thanks for your response Steve..i have just replaced the thermostat and its improved but radiater still needs topping up and overflow tank is full ...how and what is reverse flush?thanks for your response Steve..i have just replaced the thermostat and its improved but radiater still needs topping up and overflow tank is full ...how and what is reverse flush?
Hey John, the radiator will "fill itself" from the reservoir if the radiator cap is functioning properly.. If you drive it for a while, get it up to running temp, then cut it off and let it cool overnight, you can top-off the radiator with antifreeze. Reverse flush is removing the radiator hoses, the thermostat, and forcing water backwards through the coolant system (engine block and radiator) to remove any "old" antifreeze or "crud" that has lodged into nooks and crannies that the normal flow misses. While you have the hoses off, check the inside of the hoses for signs of deterioration,, --the inside is where ALL the wear is on hoses..make sure the inside is NOT softer than the outside, has no "bubbling" or odd ripples, no pits in the inside finish.. These are signs that YOU will be SOON left sitting on the side of the road with a blown hose! I replace mine every 5 years no matter what... I drain and flush my system every year.. Cheap insurance to NOT be left on the side of the road!!!
