It is an older LCD. i thought that the LCD itself might be going out. i read something about "20,000 hours of use" or something like that. i am pretty good with computers in general. I'll put it this way. im a poor white kid and i put all my extra money into this. i have a 9800GTX right now and a F#&#ING CRT! so i found that flat panel for 50$. not a huge loss. also wanna say that the that there is no VGA plug on the flat panel itself. already had the whole thing apart looking for a loose connections or a "bent over pin". didn't find anything. another thing that i thought that it might be that i have not confirmed is that i am using a 12v 2amp PSU. it requires a 12v 3.5amp. i haven't been able to find a site or forum that confirms that i need that other 1.5 amp. i don't think that is the problem just because it DOES come on for half a second then goes black! now that you have a little more info about the problem and know that im not a noob at this, by all means let me know if you have any other ideas.

Are you using a vga to dvi adapter then? Even though this usually is not an issue with older flat panels I have seen this problem where only a dvi to dvi will work. Secondly, If the panel calls for those extra amps you do need them and a replacement power brick will cost more than you spent. Radio Shack sells a constant demand 12v power supply that will feed your monitor what it demands when it demands it, but that unit (and I have one for field diagnostics) sells for nearly $40. If you go that or any other route the boiler plate on the back of the panel should tell you whether the outside of the power adapter is positive or negative and what size the plug should be. At Radio Shack they sell this power supply with no plugs, they supply you with a plug based on your need at time of sale, so if you go that route take your panel with you. The only other suggestion on a power brick is to go through Ebay, and take nothing less than a 7 day DOA warranty and check the brick out on arrival and if it is dead seek remedy right away. There are plenty of vendors on Ebay who sell these items and know what they are doing. If they take phone calls its worth the effort to phone them before buying.
In conclusion, I believe you need a dvi out from your display adapter to you dvi in on the panel and a power brick that feeds the monster the power amps it wants which are heavy at power on. Since you state your poor on funds you might try to off load this thing and shop Ebay for a more versatile flat panel for about the same price you paid for this thing you own now. Make sure you get a power brick with the purchase price included. And, btw, a 15" panel is just fine and cheap on Ebay.
