The 6.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine that powers my 2550 elite pressure washer is blowing oil out the exhaust and air filter while it is running. Do you think this is a gasket problem or a piston ring problem?

It most likely is a ring problem as the gasket only keeps the combustion gases in and would leak around the head as a loud noise. Of course it could be the valves, but I doubt it as most of these engines are splash fed instead of pressure, so the only explanation is the compression ring is letting oil blow past.
