The arm with the needle slides across the LP record - doesn't pick up sound
The pickup arm with the needle in it just skates across the LP without "getting into the grooves" to pick up the sound. It doesn't make music - just the scratch as the arm moves across to the center of the LP - yikes! Is it the needle or is there a problem with the weight of the arm that keeps it from holding down on the LP grooves - or other? There was no apparent damage to the unit - no kicks or drops. It just seemed to suddenly quit working; i.e., holding down and playing.

This is often a problem when you are using a 78 needle on a 45 or 33 record. Some needles can be flipped, so check to see if yours is able to flip between the 78 and 33 setting. If not, you may simply need a new one.
