The back up valve for my Polaris 280 seems to have lost some power but so far I have been unable to unscrew the large plastic ring, which seems to hold the body together, to check for blockages etc. The whole unit is hard to grip so that I might apply power to the 'unscrewing' motion. I'd be most obliged if you could give me a hint or two. Thank you Peter from Coogee

Many times you can just knock the backup valve against the cement deck and this will dislodge any debris that may be stopping the gears from spinning if the problem persist it is likely that the locking e clip has corroded and pin has slipped out gears are out of wack. best to replace because the guts are about the same as a new unit and after you replace the guts the body will probably just crack and water will shoot out the sides which effects the proper operation of the cleaner.

I've had tis exact problem myself and found the best solution to be a vice and strap wrench.
