The engine is cuttoff periodially by the ESP
The car drives well, smooth and powerful when required. But on occasion it shuts off the engine, issues an ESP "STOP" instruction, then cycles through a lot of engine faults. At this point you are usually in traffic trying to look for somewhere to stop with the clutch down to freewheel, and initiating the hazard warning lights while all around you are wondering what you are up to. I have ergularly seen the low oil pressure warning, the ESP failure warning and the depolution failure warning indication. Once the car has come to a halt (and not before! I tryed to turn of the ignition and restart the engine when this happend on a motorway but it would not permit this until the car was stationary) it is possible to turn the ignition on and restart the engine as if nothing had happened. The car has been back and forth to the service centre 4 times now, and despite a new ECU and software download there is no progress in making the car more reliable. I'm just about to check the oil level in case the first fault message (low oil pressure) is the cause - but I would have thought the service centre would have done this.
