The engine light is appearing on my dashboard every time i slow down or brake,with the rev counter jumping up and down sometimes resulting in the car conking out.i took it to a mechanic and he cleaned out the AGR valve but after a couple of weeks the same problem happened again with the car not starting at all now.I have heard differnt things from people someone told me it was a sensor problem and another person told me it was the catalatic conveyer but any mechanic i take it to can not find the problem or just dont want the hassle.dose anyone know what the problem is and is it worth fixing. The car is a 2000 vauxhall tigra 1.4 with 72 000 miles. A new timing belt was fitted 4 months ago

Hi....hope you still have the car????...<br /> <br /> did you hear any clicking when you start the car from cold??....check the drivers footwell left hand side..you will see a panel under the bonnet lever,should have 2 screws holding this panel in place..remove said panel and check pink/purple'ish relay..this is for yopur injectors and will cause eratic idling/spluttering /engine light fault and poor performance...i got my relay from a scrapyard for a couple of quid..just remember to make a mark on yours so you know which is yours..look under the bonnet in calibra/astra/cavalier etc and match up the relay numbers...job sorted...andy<!-- from fixya rte -->
