The first time
The instructions in the users manual say to run the machine on the fast bake cycle the first time to burn off any grease etc. from the manufacture. Am I to assume they mean to run the machine empty ???

Empty , that is correct . that way you can get any smokeing of the heating element out of the way and not ruin a loaf of bread with it smelling like smoke ....... you should do the same thing with a new toaster ......if this answer helped please rate it a 3 or 4 star . this high rateing will help keep me in the paid answer department thank you
