THE GAS BROILER ON THE BIG OVEN WILL NOT LIGHT
THE GAS BROILER ON THE BIG OVEN WILL NOT LITE. A REPAIRMAN SAID IT NEEDED A HOT SURFACE IGNITER. I DO NOT SMELL GAS WHEN I TRY TO TURN IT ON. DOES THE IGNITER HAVE TO BE WORKING FOR THE GAS TO FLOW?
THE BROILER HAD A PROBLEM WHEN I PURCHASED THE STOVE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT WOULD LITE THEN IT WOULD POP AND THE DOOR WOULD BE BLOWN OPEN. DACOR SENT PARTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND IT WORKED FOR A WHILE. DIFFERENT PROBLEM NOW WILL NOT WORK AT ALL.

RKLentz11,
TYPICALLY for safety reasons... Hot surface ignitions will only attempt to light a FEW times and then locks out...
As you already know these things have EXPLOSIVE CAPABILITIES...
TECHNICALLY you can USUALLY reset the gas flow
by cutting the power and restoring power...
IT IS AN EXTREMELY UNWISE thing to do without
placing a NEW... WORKING hot surface igniter...
The hot surface should be GLOWING before the
gas starts...
Do yourself a favor and forget about touching it to
see if it is warm... even BROKEN it has line current
flowing to it and EVERYTHING around it is grounded...
((read PAINFUL at best)).
