The harmonic balancer fell apart. Can it be repaired? Any way, it has to be removed for repair or replacement. After the mounting bolt is removed, will it slide right off, or does it have to be mechanically pulled off?
It does have to be"pulled" off (very easily done, auto parts stores should rent the necessary puller which is called a "bolt style puller"). Once the rubber has deteriorated and the pulley has come apart, the only fix is to replace. New is better in this case. You know that a new one has not gotten oil saturated and wont fall apart in a week.
There are bolts holding the harmonic balancer.Remove those bolts that hold the balancer to the crankshaft are hard hard to get loose. You have to remove the belt, take off the nut and pull the balancer with a puller. I know this sounds dumb, but, I know a lot of mechanics that have done this. Put a breaker bar and a socket on the bolt with a piece of pipe for an extension. Pull the wire going to the coil pack, the ignition wire. While holding the pipe against the firewall have someone bump the starter . Only do this if you cannot get the nut loose. I have had those so tight that an air wrench would not break them loose. yes you need puller from auto store to pull the nuts. The puller isn't that special. You could make it (or, perhaps, buy one at an auto parts store). It's a flat piece of steel with three holes for the pull bolts, and a center hole for the push bolt. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya
