The heater does not fire up. the pilot stays on. I have connected the thermostat wires at the base so the thermostat is not the problem. I also removed the thermocoupler at which time the pilot no longer stayed on so i believe the thermocoupler is working. any ideas?
Depends on what kinda gas valve you have. If it is a standard 24 volt valve you may have a bad transformer. If it is a millivolt valve then the pilot generator may be weak. It can hold open the safety magnet but not operate the solenoid on the gas valve. After lighting the heater and the pilot stays lit then you gotta move the gas valve knob to ON position so make sure that has been done. If you had a blown fuse the pilot would not stay lit so I don't think that is the case. The trouble with these heaters is their is no way of looking up the model so I gotta shoot from the hip so to speak.
