The light on the base isn't working on my scanner and when i connect it to the computer it says device not recognized and malfunctioning. The light on the scanner is on and laser is working. The scanner makes the out of range noise

This is a fairly common problem with these little guys. First thing is to make sure the power plug is "all the way" into the base. Sometimes the base will have a little o-ring that will kind of pop the plug in. I've fallen victim to this many times.
If the power plug is in all the way, then the base is the culprit. Are you using a USB cable to connect the base to your PC?
